In the June 8th edition of the Daily Record self styled ‘agony aunt’; Joan Burnie, saw fit to get on top of her little soap box and lecture the rest of us on how pathetic we are when we expect some form of Godly influence in our government. The first paragraph of her column reads ‘If any MP thinks his or her religious convictions are more important than their duty to represent their constituents of all faiths or none, they should quit politics for the pulpit’. In thirty-odd words Ms Burnie has written off hundreds of years of Parliamentary history and the hopes of countless thousands of Britons. Does the oath that MP’s take on the start of each new Parliament not re-affirm their allegiance to and beseech help from GOD? Indeed it does my friends, so why the attack on our heritage? When you read the rest of the article it becomes increasingly obvious that what Joan Burnie is really attacking is the pro-life remarks of Cardinal Keith O’Brien, she particularly ‘objects’ to the emotive way the Cardinal couched his remarks. I mean, how dare anyone show emotion over the murder of our young ones!!
Joan Burnie admits in her article that she has two children, has had two miscarriages and says that ‘the pain of the latter events at a fairly early stage in the pregnancies could not, and should not, ever be compared to the raw anguish of losing a living, breathing five year old. And how dare anyone, not least someone without the slightest understanding of what it is to be a parent, suggest they are the same.’ At this point it appears obvious to the reader that Ms Burnie has wandered off into some parallel universe and is desperately grasping at some form of reality that she can relate to! It is certainly unfortunate that she has had two miscarriages, but was the Cardinals remarks not about abortion? Two very different scenarios I am sure you will agree. A miscarriage is something that the body does naturally, it cannot be helped and health studies have shown that it happens to one in four women. Abortion however, is the pre-meditated murder of an innocent child. Burnie also said that ‘the grief suffered losing an unborn child is not the same as the grief suffered if one lost a living, breathing 5 year old.’ Is the unborn child not alive? The very definition of ‘life’ is: ‘the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth.’ The argument that ‘the baby is not alive in the womb’ is utterly ridiculous and only worthy of derisory comment. By Ms Burnie’s understanding her two children were as alive in her womb as an inorganic object, say a piano or maybe a spade!
So what does Ms Burnie suggest would happen to these women who make the grave error of having an abortion – Counseling? Healthcare? Psychotherapy? God? NO!!! The very ‘caring’ Ms Burnie who worries so much about the poor people who are affected by the Cardinals ‘emotive’ remarks states: ‘Then she must live with her conscience as best she can.’ In other words folks, ‘we don’t care about the dead child or the mother, as long as we have the right to choose murder over life.’
In a veritable orgy of stupidity Ms Burnie then goes on to castigate Pro-lifers for attacking the 1967 Act saying that ‘we should not pretend there was no abortion in this country before 1967.’ Of course there were, but the difference was that it was illegal, the government of the land had the basic decency and common sense to know it was wrong and to treat it as murder. She quotes from the British Medical Association that there were at least 50,000 ‘abortions’ carried out by ‘backstreet butchers’ in the years pre-1963. This figure is miniscule compared to the 203,000 ‘official’ abortions carried out per year by the ‘frontstreet butchers!’ To finish off her rant Ms Burnie attacks the right of Churches to ‘dictate’ to MP’s, she say’s: ‘If it is acceptable for the Catholic Church, which is after all a minority church in Britain, to dictate to MP’s then why shouldn’t other religions start piling in to promote their beliefs?’ I have to say I agree with what Joan Burnie is saying here, but not in the context she means. Why indeed do the other main religions not promote their beliefs on the subject? The Church of Englands official stance on abortion is ‘strong opposition’ and the stance of Islam is ‘Seeking abortion is inhuman and cruel thinking, no sane person would allow that.’ It is time for all of these religious groups to make their opposition to this barbaric and evil trade known to all. Perhaps then we will have the beginning of a country that is once again strong and blessed, where we can precede Britain with ‘Great’ once again.
Joan Burnie wants God out of politics. It would be far better to have Joan Burnie staying away from subjects she so obviously has no comprehension of, it is people like her, who support the murder of innocents and who attack those who would defend them, that have brought this country to its present predicament.
Joan Burnie say’s ‘Parliament should not do God. Any God.’ I say Parliament should do God. Only God.
